Beddgelert Circular For the Saturday, the middle of our three days, we decided on a fairly gentle walk: we had plans for a long walk on the Sunday! The start was strenuous, seeing us on the steep climb out of Beddgelert to the summit of Mynydd Sygun. At least we had a view back down to the lovely, (white doored), cottage we were staying in courtesy of the Beddgelert Bistro whose own rooms were full.

The lower part of this route is steep, and is one I have done a good few times now. Usually as a warm up walk when I arrive for a longer trip to Snowdonia.

Rhe weather was overcast but without too much low cloud. So we started to get good views as soon as we made even a small of progress with the ascent.

There are quite a few rocky bits to get up. This one with water flowing down it!

The extension of the Welsh Highland Railway from Rhydd Du to Porthmadog is close to completion with etst trains running as far as Beddgelert. One seen below as we neared the summit of the climb.

And so to the summit. A cold place to be with quite a stiff wind blowing.

We stayed on the summit long enough to take in the view to the East: Cnicht and the Moelwyns.

And we walked to an outcrop nearer to Beddgelert, which gave us a view down to the village as well as of the distant background of the Nantlle Ridge.

Then we headed off down to find the main path that would lead us down to the Southern end of the Aberglaslyn Pass. After one or two false moves we were heading in the right direction.

Onto the main path and a straightforward and gentle descent to the valley floor.

Back in the valley we passed an unusual cottage, recently refurbished. The rear part being almost completely buried into the hillside!

The start of the path into the Aberglaslyn is above the river, but soon drops down to water level.

The walk up the pass was taken slowly as befitted the semi rest day status of our walk. The river was not running fast, there having been little rain for the past few days.

The exit from the main part of the Aberglaslyn Pass. Followed by a gentle stroll back to our cottage in Beddgelert, and an easy evening prior to a big days walking in the morning.
