Alpspitze With the hot weather continuing my plan for the last day of this trip was to use the Kreuzeck cable car to enable a higher and therefore cooler start. And then to enjoy walking in the superb area just under the Alpspitze.

So two local buses got me to the cable car station as it opened at 08.30 from where I was whisked up to the cooler air at over 1600m. Well signed tracks soon had me heading in the direction of the Hupfleitenjoch, a small saddle under the Osterfelderkopf.

Track from Hupfleitenjoch to Osterfelderkopf After the severe winter it was no real surprise to see that the track went through the edge of a small snow field as low as 1700m, but that was easily crossed before the zig zag climb started.

Storm over Kramerspitze I had thought of stopping at Längenfeld for my standard, (and late), hot weather lunch of crisps, energy bar and Isotonic drink. But something told me to get to the cable car station and an end to the day. Just as well, as a massive and violent storm had built up inside an hour. Hardly was I in the first of my two buses back to Farchant than the storm broke with near continuous lightning and massive chunks of ice falling out of the sky. Was I glad to have ended a superb hiking trip to a wonderful part of Bavaria dry and not exposed to thunder and lightning!
